The Cate boys soccer team got a first-half goal from center back Charlie Dori0n, and the Rams made it stand up for a 1-0 victory at Diamond Bar in a CIF-SS Division 5 wild-card match on Tuesday.

The win advances the Rams into the main draw, where they’ll face Pasadena Poly on the road on Thursday.

The Rams earned a free kick from about 30 yards out. Senior Jae Lim launched a ball into the 6-yard goal box that found the feet of freshmen Dorion for the putaway.

“I am very proud of this group of young men,” said coach Jorge Reynoso. “We chose a good time to play our best team game. We controlled the tempo, maintained our composure, and did a good job of transition and countering today.

“This is a great win for our young team. Our starting 11 included five freshmen, three sophomores, two Juniors, and one senior. The playoff experience we are gaining with every postseason game we play will be priceless for the future of our program.”
