The Cate football team won its second consecutive game Saturday, 65-14 over Santa Clara.
The Rams are now 2-1.
Rams junior quarterback Pen Brooks started the scoring barrage with a 65-yard fun on the first play from scrimmage.
Cate scored three more running touchdowns in the first quarter: by senior Zaq Asuamah for 30 yards; junior Kristian Scurtis from five yards out; and sophomore Joba Sansum on a 35-yard scamper.
In the second quarter, Sansum found the end zone again on a 16-yard scurry, and then Asuamah encore’d his earlier score with a 20-yard run.
The Rams led 44-0 nothing at the half, without attempting a pass.
Santa Clara scored on the second-half kickoff, but Cate quickly answered on a 60-yard run by sophomore Cody Mast.
Despite a running clock, the Rams managed two more scores: a 37 yard run by Mast, and a 12-yard carry by sophomore quarterback Quinn Pullen.
“(Freshman) Barron Crayton and (junior) Muhsin Hakim all had great games for the Rams defensively,” Cate coach David Soto said.
“I’m proud of the way we played today,” he said. “Everyone got in on the action, which is always exciting. We put some guys in different positions today, which will no doubt help our depth this year. We will build on this momentum as we look to improve going forward.”
