Top-ranked Cate roared to a 39-0 lead by halftime and went on to beat Santa Clarita Christian, 45-8, in an 8-man football game on the road Saturday.

The Rams scored 20 points in the first quarter on a Will Bouma 10-yard run, a 20-yard scamper by Zaq Asumamah and an interception return for a touchdown by Matty Holmes.

In the second quarter, Bouma threw a TD pass and backup quarterback Pen Brooks tossed two to put the Rams ahead 39-0. Tyler Martinez caught a pass for his first touchdown of the season.

Sophomore Kristian Scurtis scored on a 9-yard run in the third quarter to make it 45-0.

Holmes was a standout on defense, intercepting three passes and recovering a fumble.

Cate (4-0 on the season) is back in action Thursday at Santa Clara in Oxnard.
