For the third time in its 4-0 campaign this season, Cate came from behind to claim a win on Wednesday, 10-8 against Foothill Tech in Tri-Valley League match.
Down 8-7, it was down to junior Jinming Wang in singles and the doubles teams of Michael Armstrong and Lucian Prinz and Bryce Kim and Alex Tang. All of them won their sets for the Rams to prevail.
“This was really a tremendous team effort,” Cate coach Jason Saltoun-Ebin said. “They were better at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, winning all six sets in those spots, but our depth really showed as we took 10 of the remaining 12 sets.
Saltoun-Ebin added, “I’m especially proud of the younger guys like freshman Ethan Bloom and sophomore Will Vanica, teaming up together for the first time, picking up sets and going head-to-head against FT’s No. 1 doubles team. And in singles, sophomore Jengus Ercil continued his tough play, picking up two sets against a strong singles lineup.”
The Rams host St. Bonaventure at 4 p.m. on Friday.
