Maya Blattberg had 16 points and seven rebounds on Saturday and Lily Zanze registered a double-double (12 points, 15 rebounds, 3 steals) to guide Cate to a 59-26 girls basketball victory over Thacher in Ojai.
The Rams led 29-17 at halftime, then shut out the Toads in the third quarter, 21-0, behind eight points from Blattberg and seven by Deborah Brittain. Cate won the second and third quarters by a combined 37-8.
“From the tip, we played with an intensity and unselfishness unparalleled this season,” said coach Laura Moore. “With a roaring Thacher crowd and some very loud Cate supporters, the atmosphere and performance by the Rams made this an especially extraordinary and fun game. As a team, we had 10 assists and 23 steals and played a fantastic inside/outside game. We made critical strides in just our fourth game of the season playing tough and unselfish basketball.”
Meena Baher had 10 points, eight steals and four deflections while Brittain contributed nine points, six rebounds and five deflections.
The Rams will host a strong Dos Pueblos team on Tuesday at 6 p.m. The Chargers are 10-2 and won the Nordhoff Tournament on Saturday, beating Santa Clara 42-38 in the final.
