It’s officially time to leap forward into spring.

On Sunday, March 9, daylight saving time will officially begin at 2 a.m. as clocks will turn forward an hour. Although we will “lose” an hour this weekend, the coming months will see later sunsets.

Sunday’s sunset time in Santa Barbara will be 7:01 p.m.

While most newer devices will automatically switch the time, some items such as microwaves, wall clocks, ovens, and older car models will need to be manually adjusted.

Fire officials also recommend that residents check the batteries of their carbon monoxide detectors and smoke detectors during each time change.

Daylight saving time will end on Nov. 2, 2025.
