The Channel League Cross Country Championships at Dos Pueblos on Wednesday were postponed due to the wildfire burning in Ventura County, DP Athletic Director Dan Feldhaus said.
The Mountain Fire, burning in the area of Moorpark, Camarillo and Somis, has prompted evacuations and road closures. Feldhaus told Noozhawk that Oxnard-area schools were shut down Wednesday so their school buses could be used for evacuations.
Oxnard High, Pacifica and Rio Mesa are members of the Channel League along with Santa Barbara High, San Marcos, Dos Pueblos, Ventura and Buena.
The fire had burned nearly 8,900 acres by 2 p.m., according to the Ventura County Star.
The Channel League Finals have been rescheduled for Friday at 11 a.m., on the 3-mile on-campus course at DP. The meet will determine team and individual qualifiers for next week’s CIF-Southern Section Prelims
