Dos Pueblos girls flag football cruised to a 49-0 win over Buena in the opening round of the Channel League Tournament on Monday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
The Chargers’ win coupled with the San Marcos Royals defeating Rio Mesa set up a crosstown rivalry semifinal game between the two squads on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Buena High School.
In the victory over the Bulldogs, Lily Rodriguez tossed three touchdown passes and completed four successful extra-point attempts.
Rodriguez threw touchdowns to Brooklyn Hedricks, Kindah Ahmad-Reda and Taylor Grant. Two of the extra-point conversions went to Ahmad-Reda while the others went to Hedricks and Carly Letendre.
Hannah Remick also excelled under center for Dos Pueblos to the tune of two touchdowns, one to Hedricks and one to Sterling Streatfeild. Remick found Hedricks and Anya Newton on the extra-point conversions.
In the rushing attack, both Ruby Streatfeild and Paige Ferro rushed for touchdowns. Defensively, Ahmad-Reda racked up five total sacks.
The Chargers will look to repeat their last matchup with San Marcos on Tuesday, as they defeated the Royals 20-6 to leap them in the league standings in the regular season.
Oxnard 28, Santa Barbara High 6
The Dons had their run at a Channel League title come to an end with a loss to the Yellow Jackets at Peabody Stadium on Monday.
Oxnard came out on fire, scoring all 28 of its points in the opening half, including one with just four seconds left on the clock.
The lone Santa Barbara High touchdown came on an electrifying 60-yard touchdown run by Elina Stump.
Stump also had a solid night defensively alongside Krystal Valdez and Kate Olvera.
