Santa Barbara’s Charlotte Raisin scored four goals to lead the U.S. Water Polo Women’s Youth National Team to an 8-7 victory over Hungary in the bronze medal game at the World Aquatics U18 World Championships in Spain.
Raisin, a San Marcos alum and an incoming freshman at USC, completed a first-half hat trick and scored the go-ahead goal for Team USA in the fourth period. The U.S. added two more goals to go up 8-6.
After Australia got one back with three minutes left, the U.S. defense came through down the stretch as goalie Gianna Adams and Kirra Pantaleon recorded steals to preserve the win.
Raisin and Adams were named to the Media All-Star Team while Adams was also honored as the Best Goalkeeper at the tournament.
In the semifinals, the U.S. fell to eventual champion Australia, 14-10. Australia defeated Spain for the gold medal, 9-7.
Raisin poured in five goals and was named Player of the Match Team USA’s 11-8 victory over Netherlands in the quarterfinals.
In her young USA Water Polo career, Raisin has medaled in three major tournaments: gold at the PanAm Aquatics Championships, gold at the World Aquatics U20 Championships and bronze at the U18 Worlds.
