The Lompoc Walmart Superstore has awarded the Charlotte’s Web Bookmobile a $1,000 Walmart Foundation Community Grant to help support children’s literacy in Lompoc.
The funds will be used to purchase books for the bookmobile’s Honor Book collection. Many of the children who come onboard the bookmobile are not able to get library cards, so the bookmobile offers a selection of books they can check out without a library card.
This collection is called the Honor Book collection, and assures that every child will leave the bookmobile with a book they are excited about.
The Charlotte’s Web Bookmobile began service in March 2016 and is designed to serve children from infancy to sixth grade.
The bookmobile’s mission is to encourage positive experiences with books and reading so children will develop their own love of reading and be intrinsically motivated to read.
Bookmobile stops include after-school programs, low-income housing, homeless shelters, and preschools, as well as appearances at community events like the Lompoc Christmas parade.
