Due to unsafe field conditions caused by recent and anticipated rainfall, the Children’s Resource & Referral of Santa Barbara County (CRR), in partnership with the Santa Maria Recreation & Parks Department, has cancelled this year’s Family Kite Festival.

At this time, organizers have confirmed that the event will not be rescheduled in 2026.

After careful evaluation of Rotary Centennial Park, including visible pooling and ground saturation from minimal rain, and with additional weather forecast, event organizers determined that proceeding would compromise the safety, accessibility, and overall experience for families, vendors and staff.

“This decision was made with the community at the forefront,” said Jacquilyn Banta, COO of CRR. “While we are disappointed, our responsibility is to ensure that every event we host is safe, welcoming, and aligned with the high standards our families deserve.”

CRR thanks the partners, vendors, and team members who contributed their time and effort to planning this year’s event.
