The California Highway Patrol has released the name of the woman killed in a crash on Highway 166 at the San Luis Obispo County line last week.

According to CHP Officer Maria Barriga, the woman has been identified as 27-year-old Gabrielle Hinojosa of Bakersfield.

Hinojosa was traveling westbound in a Ford Fusion on Highway 166 near Rinconada Ranch at about 6:44 p.m. on April 14 when the vehicle crashed and rolled approximately 20 feet off the road.

She was pronounced dead at the scene, while her son, who is almost two years old, was taken by ambulance to Marian Regional Medical Center.

In a GoFundMe that went up this week, family members said the child is expected to make a full recovery “within the next couple weeks.”

They also said that Hinojosa, who went by Gabbi, was “a light in all of our lives.”

“She was bold, humble, and full of so much love. She had a way of making everyone feel seen and cared for. Her presence brought warmth and comfort, and her absence leaves a space that can never truly be filled,” family members said.

The family said the GoFundMe funds will cover funeral expenses and “ease the financial burden as we honor Gabbi’s life and memory.”

It was the second fatal crash along the remote stretch of highway in recent weeks.

On March 25, a Kern County resident was killed when their vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed into a commercial big rig.
