A long bus ride couldn’t slow the Laguna Blanca boys volleyball team in its CIF-SS Division 6 playoff opener Wednesday night.
The Owls came out charged up and rolled passed host Ramona, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16.
“After a four-hour bus ride south, the boys came out and played really well the entire night,” said coach Jason Donnelly. “We were in system most of the night, passing a 2.4 as a team. Baylor Wilson ran our offense to near perfection.”
Wilson dished out 31 assists and also picked up nine digs.
Tyler Deveze was a force on the outside, blasting 17 kills on a .419 hitting percentage. Liam Knezevic had 13 kills and hit .346, Jamie Levinson tallied 10 digs and Soren Alldredge added 8 kills and four blocks.
“We were able to establish our middle attack early and that opened up things for our pin hitters,” said Donnelly. “We had a solid scouting report on them and executed the plan at a high level. It was fun to see us play so well.”
The Owls (12-7) will host La Cañada in a second-round match on Saturday at 5 p.m.
Carpinteria 3, Los Amigos 0
The hitting of Jesus Campuzano paced the Warriors to a 25-20, 26-24, 25-21 sweep of Los Amigos in a CIF-SS Division 8 first-round match on Wednesday at Carpinteria.
“Jesus Campuzano showed out with powerful hits and consistent play,” said coach Fabian Muralles. “Cole Rowbottom had one of his best nights, and Alan Maya did a great job setting the pace for our offense.”
Carpinteria is back home for a second-round match on Saturday at 6 p.m. against Montclair.
