Carpinteria swimmer Jackson Melton broke his own school record set two days earlier in winning the 100 breaststroke Friday in a time of 1:05.39 in a dual meet with cross-town rival Cate.
He had to swim fast to prevail — other entrants in the event were close behind and all four swimmers beat CIF Division 3 consideration times. Cate’s Phin Stephenson was second at 1:06:01, the Warriors’ Jacob Taff third with 1:06:86 and Cate’s Kairei Jones touched at 1:10:22.
Carpinteria swept the boys and girls events in what Warrior coach Jon Otsuki called “a beautiful day at the Carpinteria Community Pool” for both programs. The Carpinteria boys won 98-70 and the girls 86-77.
The Rams started strong, claiming the first two events, taking the boys 200 medley by 0.10 second before Cyrus Symington won the 200 freestyle by a commanding seven seconds.
The Warriors then won eight of the nine following boys events. All event winners posted sub-consideration times for CIF D3.
Aside from his record in the 100 breaststroke, Melton set a personal best in the 100 freestyle with 50.11, just ahead of teammate Jacob Otsuki with a PR 51.05.
Matthew Endow was also a double event winner for the Warriors (200 IM and 100 fly), and Eli Sheaffer led a Carpinteria sweep of the top three finishers in the 500 freestyle, with freshman Sky Korling and sophomore Aiden Alcaraz also earning consideration times, both just 0.5 second behind Sheaffer. Korling and Alcaraz had done the event only once before.
The Lady Warriors prevailed by winning seven of the 11 events.
Double event winners were senior Erin Otsuki (50 free and 100 backstroke, automatic qualifying time) and Lilli Nemetz (200 IM and 100 free).
Giulia Piccoletti won the 100 breaststroke.
Otsuki, Piccoletti, Taylor Classen and Nemetz teamed up for the 200 medley relay to swim faster than the automatic qualifying standard. The four later teamed up for a victory in the 4 x 100 free relay where they dropped over 3 seconds on their season best consideration time.
“The Warriors will continue rigorous training through spring break when they will return to competitive action April 5th and April 6th hosting Nordhoff and Newbury Park respectively,” coach Otsuki said.
