Several local high school boys golf standouts competed in the CIF-SS Individual Northern Regionals at Los Robles Golf Course, a par 70, on Wednesday.

There were 128 total golfers in the field, with the top 20 advancing to the CIF-SS Individual Championship next Thursday at River Ridge Golf Club in Oxnard.

San Marcos

The Royals had five total golfers competing on Wednesday and two finished under the cut of even-par.

The San Marcos duo of Nate Duva and Andy Keenan finished within the top 20 to continue their individual seasons next week. Duva shot a one-under-par 69, while Keenan ended the day with an even-par 70.

“[Duva] has had a great freshman year and played really solid golf today to advance,” San Marcos head coach Jeff Ashton said. “Andy has been one of the top-ranked golfers in all of CIF-Southern Section all season and we’re excited to continue to see him play.”

Axl Wedhammar, Austin Downing and Ethan Klawuhn also competed on Wednesday, just missing the cut. Wedhammar shot a 72, Downing carded a 74 and Klawuhn rounded out the Royals with a 78.

San Marcos will compete as a team in the CIF-SS Division 1 Championship next week at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.

Santa Barbara High

Alex Ortega and Logan Gankas rounded out their seasons for the Dons at the Regionals on Wednesday.

Ortega shot a two-over-par 72 to place 30th as an individual, while Gankas recorded a score of 83.

“I’m proud of the way these boys challenged each other and strove to get better each day this season,” Santa Barbara High head coach Ryan Throop said.

Dos Pueblos

Connor Nightingale represented the Chargers at the Regionals, coming in 43rd place out of 128 golfers.

He shook off a slow start and ended the day with four birdies to secure a score of 74.

“Connor was able to hit the ball very well off the tee, ultimately giving him a lot of birdie putts, but unfortunately, they were just not dropping,” Dos Pueblos head coach Kevin Ahlers said.
