San Marcos boys soccer rolled to a 4-0 victory over Golden Valley in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 5 playoffs on Friday at Warkentin Stadium.
The Royals (12-6-2) will hit the road for the quarterfinals against Mountain View of El Monte on Tuesday.
“Golden Valley’s backline was well organized and their midfield was tenacious,” San Marcos head coach Paul McLean said. “We were encouraged to see our team find a way to create good chances and convert them.”
The Royals opened the scoring in the first half when Yael Solano was fouled in the box and Wes Monroy buried the ensuing penalty kick.
Later in the opening half, Julian Santana crossed a ball into Luis Campos, who finished it to take a 2-0 advantage into the halftime break.
San Marcos continued to roll in the second half as Santana delivered a stellar corner kick to the back post, where Eliot Gray rose above the crowd and scored on a header.
The Royals rounded out the scoring when Campos collected a loose ball and rocketed a goal into the back of the net to make it 4-0.
“Luis Campos was focused and sharp when scoring both his goals and it was fantastic to see Eliot Gray help to create a goal and then score one off the corner kick,” McLean said.
“Defensively, Omar Solis in goal and the whole backline and midfield were solid. It was another great team performance.”
