Dos Pueblos girls basketball held on down the stretch for a 52-45 win over San Juan Hills in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 2 playoffs on Saturday inside Sovine Gym.

The Chargers (19-11) will remain at home and roll out the welcome mats for Rosary Academy in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Dos Pueblos had the upper hand in the early stages, building a slim 13-7 lead after the first quarter and growing it to 28-16 by the halftime break.

The Chargers continued to roll out of the locker room, dominating both ends of the court to take a commanding 41-26 lead into halftime.

San Juan Hills came roaring back in the fourth, outscoring Dos Pueblos 19-11 to cut the deficit down to single digits. However, the Chargers did just enough to hold on for the second-round victory.

Kindah Ahmad-Reda led the way for Dos Pueblos with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Carly Letendre scored 13 points and dished out eight assists.

Asha Nayak and Charlotte Gardiner contributed 10 and nine points, respectively, and Penelope Frazer tallied six points and seven rebounds.

Bishop Diego 55, Fullerton 44 (Div. 5)

The Cardinals went on the road and pulled out a second-round playoff win over Fullerton on Saturday.

Bishop Diego (24-4) will play host to Sunny Hills in the CIF-SS Div. 5 Quarterfinals on Wednesday inside the Brick House.

The Cardinals jumped out to a commanding 18-8 lead in the opening quarter, but Fullerton slowly chipped away until the Bishop Diego lead stood at 36-30 heading into the fourth.

Fullerton opened the fourth on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to one point, but Bishop Diego answered with a hustle play from Alyssa Chrestenson that led to a three-pointer by Jeisa Coronado and a bucket by Jaymi Coronado to bring it back up to six points.

From there, Fullerton never got closer than six points and the Cardinals escaped with the win.

Jeisa Coronado paced the Bishop Diego offense with 17 points, while Eden Wynne recorded 14 points of her own.

San Jacinto 65, Carpinteria High 43 (Div. 6)

The Warriors had their season come to a close with a loss to San Jacinto in the second round of the CIF-SS Div. 6 playoffs on Saturday.

“Though the season ended tonight, I am extremely proud of our girls and their accomplishments this season,” Carpinteria High head coach Henry Gonzales said.

“This was a team that gave everything they had, no matter the situation.  I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to coach this group and truly enjoyed every moment.”

The Warriors held a 15-10 advantage after a strong first quarter of action, but San Jacinto swung back in the second to take a 32-25 lead into halftime.

San Jacinto maintained control of the game in the second half, pulling away for the lopsided win.

The Carpinteria trio of Jamaica Cook, Amalia Castaneda and Charlotte Cooney were the team’s top scorers with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively.
