Dos Pueblos girls beach volleyball opened the CIF-SS Div. 3 playoffs with a 4-1 victory over Downey on Tuesday in Goleta.
The Chargers will now make the quick trip down to Camarillo for the second round on Thursday at 3 p.m.
The Dos Pueblos No. 1 duo of Allie Ben-Yaacov/Char Welch set the tone at the top of the lineup with a 21-9, 21-12 victory.
“Allie and Char played clean, composed volleyball and cruised to an easy win as the only pair with CIF experience from last year,” Charger head coach Nate Holmes said.
Ruby Dunlop/Gia Haas kept it going on court two by battling to a three-set win over their opponents, 17-21, 21-11, 15-12.
The No. 3 pairing of Faith Harrison/Kyra Sample also shook off a first-set loss en route to a three-set victory of their own, 16-21, 21-19, 15-5.
“Kyra made strong defensive adjustments, and Faith found her offensive rhythm in the second and third sets,” Holmes said.
At the fives, Athena Bardakos/Moana Martinez rounded out the win for the Chargers with a 21-10, 25-23 victory.
“Athena and Moana stayed composed and closed out the second game as Downey pushed to force a third,” Holmes said.
Bishop Diego 4, Costa Mesa 1 (Div. 4)
The Cardinals pulled out a first-round win of their own over Costa Mesa on Tuesday.
All four of Bishop Diego’s victories came in straight sets, as Sophie Otte/Wynter Thorne-Thomsen swept the ones, Olivia Leflag/Natalie Chan won at court two, Elle McMahon/Addie Hubbs earned a win at the No. 3 matchup and Abbie Hubbs/Brighton Montag took care of business at the fours.
The Cardinals will be on the road against Pacifica Christian in Orange County for the second round on Thursday.
