Five of the six local girls tennis teams in the CIF-SS playoffs punched their tickets to the Quarterfinal round with victories on Friday afternoon.

While Cate, Dos Pueblos, Laguna Blanca, Santa Barbara High and Carpinteria High will continue their seasons on Monday, San Marcos’ year came to a close with a second-round loss.

Cate 14, Newport Harbor 4 (Div. 2)

The Rams continued their quest for a CIF-SS title with a strong second-round victory over Newport Harbor on Friday in Newport Beach.

Cate will return home to host Agoura in the Division 2 Quarterfinals on Monday at 1:30 p.m. in Carpinteria.

The Ram pairings of Lisa Hasebe/Kiki Chang and Elly Edwards/Chelsea Newlove cruised to three-set sweeps en route to the team win.

Jade Wang, Claire Tang and Elizabeth Jayich took care of business in singles action for Cate to help pull away for the victory.

“All year, we’ve been noted for the depth of our program, with strength at every position in the lineup, but we’ve also got another kind of depth,” Cate head coach Trevor Thorpe said. “It’s the kind of depth that comes from players having competed for and won a CIF championship, as well as knowing the heartbreak of a close CIF Semifinal loss.

“It’s the kind of depth that comes from active senior leadership and younger players that put their hand up for a challenge and a chance to be great.”

Dos Pueblos 13, JW North 5 (Div. 4)

The Chargers advanced to the CIF-SS Quarterfinals with a comfortable win over No. 4 seed JW North on Friday in Goleta.

Dos Pueblos will hit the road for the first time in its playoff run for the quarterfinals on Monday against Westridge at 2 p.m.

Zella Cassidy and Atria Husein each went 3-0 to pace the Charger singles effort, while Adyha Reddy-Hoelle earned a win over JW North’s top player.

Meanwhile, the Dos Pueblos duos of Addy Barth/Nico Pfeiffer, Gigi Da Re/Autumn Warmerdam and Taylor Dannemiller/Nikita Fisher won two matches apiece.

“The long rallies in the singles matches were amazing ground war duels. Fortunately, the Chargers were the winners of most,” Dos Pueblos head coach Alan Richter said.

“Our doubles team played aggressively from the baseline and the net and limited JW to just 5 games in as many sets. This is good momentum going into the quarterfinals”

Santa Barbara High 15, La Canada 3 (Div. 5)

The Dons pulled off a convincing upset victory over No. 2-seeded La Canada in the second round of the Div. 5 playoffs on Friday in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara High will make the quick trip down to Ojai to take on Thacher in the quarterfinals on Monday at 2 p.m.

“Though they were tested more than their last round, and forced to play out some longer rallies, games and sets, taking the meet into the dusk light, when asked to raise their level, the Dons delivered,” Santa Barbara High head coach Shane Carmody said.

Hali Wight cruised to three singles victories, while Karen Monroy went 2-0 and Iris Heckes collected two singles wins of her own.

In doubles action, Sky O’Reilly/Ryan Briggs tallied a trio of victories and Violet Marr/Kana Wolf went 2-1. Meanwhile, Lucy Kronberg came together with Kate Hashbarger for two wins before pairing up with Natalie MacFarlane for a 6-2 win.

Laguna Blanca 13, Burroughs 5 (Div. 5)

The Owls kept their season alive with a second-round victory over Burroughs on Friday in Hope Ranch.

Laguna Blanca will head down to Long Beach Wilson for the Division 5 Quarterfinals on Monday at 2 p.m.

Carpinteria High 9, Brea Olinda 9 (Carp wins in games) (Div. 6)

The Warriors pulled out a tight victory over Brea Olinda with a 75-66 advantage in games won to punch their ticket to the Division 6 quarterfinals on Friday in Carpinteria.

Carpinteria High will now head to Anaheim to clash with Katella on Monday at 2 p.m.

“I was so proud of all of their efforts. We worked hard and stayed composed even when things were looking a little bleak as we were down 9-7 while those last two doubles sets were finishing up,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “It was an amazing effort against a well-coached squad. They will be back and going further next season.

“And for now, we are enjoying our little ride. The competition does not get easier as we will travel to Katella on Monday. They look to be a very talented team too.”

Aubrey Alcaraz went 3-0 to pace the Warrior singles attack, while Caroline Cooney went 2-1 and Yaretzi Moctezuma picked up some games to contribute to the win.

In doubles, Emily Banks/Cailyn Gillen earned a pair of victories for Carpinteria, while Sadie West/Ariana Cruz and Nathalie Hernandez/Yoselyn Aguirre tacked on one win apiece.

Thacher 11, San Marcos 7 (Div. 5)

The Royals had their season come to a close with a loss to Thacher on Friday in Santa Barbara.

Tate Jaeger rounded out her team season with another 3-0 sweep, finishing her year in team play with a 29-2 overall record. Leah Shenoda also picked up a victory in singles action.

In doubles, the San Marcos pairing of Fiona Weber/Taylor Ofner went 2-1, while Kaisa Taggart/Myla Zeitsoff earned one win.

“We came up shorter than we’d hoped in doubles today but we are proud of the growth we’ve made this season,” San Marcos head coach Emily Carver said.

Jaeger will continue her season at CIF-SS Individual Sectionals beginning on Monday, Nov. 23.
