The Cate swim team turned in a strong performance in the CIF-SS Division 1 and 2 Prelims on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Rams boys competed in the D1 prelims on Thursday, while the girls team took on the D2 meet on Wednesday. The CIF-SS Finals will take place on Saturday.

“This is among the fastest high school swim meets in the country, with an exceptionally high level of swimming,” Cate coach Tobin White said. “Our swimmers have risen to the challenge over the last two days and look forward to more.”

Josiah Hansen led the charge for the boys with two new school records, advancing to the CIF-SS finals in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke. He set a new record of 50.50 seconds in the butterfly and his time of 51.81 seconds in the backstroke topped the all-time list.

Meanwhile, the 200 medley relay team of Hansen, Devon Liang, Wil Rivera and Jae Wykoff broke the program record with their time of 1:37.95.

Hansen, Rivera and Wykoff were then joined by Elliott Paige to set a new mark of 3:14.63 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Emi Kanda Gleeson had a stellar day for the girls, qualifying for the finals in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Her times of 2:14.68 in the 200 IM and 1:00.11 in the 100 backstroke improved upon each of her own school records.

Kanda-Gleeson teamed up with Sofia Wang, Jen Won and Tori Kim to qualify in the medley relay. Individually, Won came in 28th in the 50 freestyle and 19th in the 100 butterfly to earn an alternate spot.

Kim, Wang, Makalya Niu and Kollock turned in a season-best time in the 200 freestyle relay, as did Won, Kollock, Kim and Kanda-Gleeson in the 400 freestyle relay.

Dos Pueblos (Div. 1)

The Charger girls were represented by Wynona Shea, Devereux Wigo, Talia Marshall, Riley Moore, Dasha Dzreeva and Gwyneth Kinsport at the CIF-SS D1 Prelims on Thursday.

Dzreeva was the lone swimmer for Dos Pueblos to advance to the CIF-SS finals, as she finished in the top nine in the 100 fly and will compete for the title on Saturday.
