Santa Barbara High sophomore Jules Horton placed in the top five in two championship events at the CIF-SS Division 3 Swimming Championships at Mt. San Antonio College on Friday.

Horton finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:55.29) and fifth in the 500 free (5:06.78). She also anchored a winning 200 free relay team in the consolation final (1:45.69). The other members of the team are Luna Morancy, Rose Nelley and freshman Elisa Hine.

Hine, swimming in the championship 100 fly, finished in eighth place (1:02.28).

Cate Girls

Emi Kanda-Gleeson set school records in the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley at the Division 2 finals. She cracked the one minute barrier in the backstroke, finishing in 59.97 for 11th place. Her new school mark of 2:14.09 in the 200 IM was good for 14th place.

“Emi has put the work in all year to get faster and it really paid off in her races,” said coach Tobin White.

The 200 medley relay team of Tori Kim, Sofia Wang, Kanda-Gleeson and Jen Won finished 17th in their event.

“They were the first relay team in Cate swimming history to advance to a scoring final at the Division 2 level,” said White.

Josiah Hansen will represent Cate in the Boys Division 1 Championship finals on Saturday.

Carpinteria Boys

The Warriors placed fifth in the Division 3 championship 200 medley relay with the team of Jake Ehlers, Stefan Piccoletti, Sky Korling and Massimo Bonilla-Zakosek. Their time was 1:42.41.

In individual events, Ehlers finished ninth in the 100 free (48.01) and Korling placed 14th in the 100 butterfly (54.08).

Carpinteria placed 20th out of 80 schools in the Division 3 championships.

“The finish marked another major step forward for the Warriors program, as the team combined veteran leadership, emerging young talent and strong relay performances to secure a top-20 finish at the Division 3 championships,” said coach Jon Otuski.

Dos Pueblos Boys

Senior sprinter Eli Carnaghe turned in an outstanding performance at the Division 2 championships, placing second and third in individual events and swimming on two relay teams that finished seventh and eighth in championship finals.

Carnaghe finished as runner-up in the 100 freestyle in a time of 46.30. The winning time was 44.50 by Jack Rodenkirch of Peninsula. In the 50 free, Carnaghe took third in 20.66.

In the relays, he swam the first leg of the seventh-place 4×50 quartet. Carnaghe, Adam Gelman, Andrew Davies-Nunez and Aricin Marshall were timed in 1:28.17. The 4×100 freestyle relay squad of Davies-Nunez, Carnaghe, Noah Warkentin and Gelman finished eighth in 3:13.38.

Warkentin finished 13th overall in the 200 IM in 1:57.88.

Dos Pueblos finished 10th as a team with 97 points.

Laguna Blanca Boys & Girls

Brothers Matthew and Bennett Sullivan placed in the top five in championship final events in the Division 2 meet.

Matthew Sullivan earned third-place finishes in the 200 IM (1:50.01) and 100 butterfly (49.27) in personal-best times. The marks automatically qualified him for the CIF State Championships next week in Clovis.

Siobhan Murphy was fourth in the Division 4 500 freestyle.

The Sullivans were part of the Owls’ 4×50 freestyle relay squad that improved from a 35th seed to a 16th-place finisher. Tikal Feng and Jake Wyatt were the other members of the foursome.

Bennett Sullivan posted a personal best of 47.03 in taking fifth in the 100 freestyle. He also finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke in 58.36.

On Thursday, Siobhan Murphy swam in the Division 4 girls championships and placed fourth in the 500 freestyle in a PR of 5:33.87. She also took 16th in the 100 backstroke in 1:10.03.

“Overall, we had a great season with much improved times for all of the girls and boys, as well as nice team camaraderie and support along the way,” said coach Ian Sullivan.
