The National Weather Service has expanded the Heat Advisory to include the city of Santa Barbara, effective this morning, Friday, through 9 p.m. Saturday. Visit the National Weather Service for the latest updates https://www.weather.gov/lox/

There is a high risk for heat-related illness, especially for sensitive groups including young children, older adults, people without air conditioning, and those who are active outdoors.

Tips to Stay Safe During High Temperatures

  • Drink plenty of cool, non-alcoholic beverages. Don’t wait until you’re thirsty.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, young children, and pets.
  • Limit outdoor activity to cooler parts of the day (morning/evening).
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Take breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces.
  • Know the signs of heat exhaustion (dizziness, nausea, heavy sweating) and heat stroke (hot, dry skin, no sweating). Call 911 if heat stroke is suspected.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
