One person was rescued this week after a sailboat ran aground on Santa Rosa Island, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

At 12:18 p.m. Thursday, the Coast Guard received an emergency radio report that the 25-foot vessel was on the island’s shoreline.

A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was dispatched to the scene and picked up the stranded mariner.

The person, whose name was not released, was taken to the Camarillo Airport for evaluation by Ventura County Fire Department personnel, and was determined not to be injured, the Coast Guard said.

The sailboat was removed from the island by a local towing company and transported to Ventura Harbor.
