The Coastal Warriors-Salas 14U club softball team wrapped up the summer with a second-place finish at the NSA Western National Championships in Clovis last week.

“The coaching staff is so proud of this team and how outstanding they played in Nationals, especially with the extreme heat and going to battle for nine games in this tournament,” Warriors head coach Janet Salas said.

“They played through the heat and many nagging injuries and competed until the end. The future is bright for these players as they compete together and against each other the next three to four years. ”

The Warriors got off to a hot start at Western Nationals, going 3-0 in pool play and outscoring opponents 31-3 along the way to earn the No. 2 overall seed in bracket play.

They continued to roll in elimination games, winning three in a row to punch their ticket to a winner’s bracket game against the Washington Acers.

After falling to the Acers by a score of 6-3, the Warriors responded with a 7-0 victory over the CenCal Tsunami to advance to the championship. The Warriors then came up short in the title game, ending the tournament with a 7-2 record.

“We witnessed a come-from-behind victory in an international tiebreaker, outstanding pitching performances, and some incredible defensive plays throughout the tournament,” Salas said.

“We keep our heads high knowing what we accomplished going 7-2 in this tournament, making the title game, and how much we have grown together in our first few months together.”

The Coastal Warriors 14U roster includes Evie Bechler, Cecily Benes, Kylie Buben, Bailey Conway, Marissah Corral, Bella Dalley, Michelle Galicia, Karina Huie, Autumn Johnson, Piper Kittle, Mylee Lynn, Sophia Munoz and Cami Weiss.

The team is managed by Janet Salas, with coaches Jacob Galindo and Jimmy Brakka.
