It was day of firsts for the Santa Barbara Foresters.
Colby Kmetko and Carson Turnquist combined to throw the first shutout of the season and Max Belyeu belted the first home run in a 5-0 victory over the Conejo Oaks on Saturday at Pershing Park.
Belyeu (University of Texas) blasted a towering shot over the left-field fence in the second inning to give the Foresters a 2-0 lead. Gianni Horvat made it 3-0, scoring on a Greg Pace single to left.
The Foresters scored in the first inning as Daniel Patterson led off with a single, stole second and came home on a single by Rocco Garza-Gongora.
Kmetko started the game and pitched six innings. The right-hander from Nevada-Reno allowed four hits and two walks, while striking out five.
Turnquist, a former Paso Robles High star who just completed his freshman year at Oklahoma, struck out three, gave up one hit and two walks in the last three innings.
The Foresters added two runs in the sixth. Will Rogers scored on an error by the Conejo catcher and Garza-Gongora was driven in by Carson Cahoy.
Santa Barbara and Conejo play the rubber game of the three-game series on Sunday in Thousand Oaks.
