Improving women’s health in Santa Barbara will be the focus of a free community talk featuring UCSB neuroscientist Emily Jacobs of the Ann S. Bower’s Women’s Brain Health Initiative, 4-6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at Direct Relief’s Hatch Hall, 6100 Wallace Becknell Road, Santa Barbara.

Hosted by UCSB Affiliates and Santa Barbara Women’s Health Coalition, the event will bring together scientific and medical experts and community advocates to foster connections and inspire action for advancing women’s health in Santa Barbara.

Jacobs is an associate professor in psychological and brain sciences at UCSB, where her research focuses on deciphering how the human brain changes during major hormonal transitions in a woman’s life, including pregnancy and menopause.

In her talk, she will examine critical ways in which progress in women’s health has stalled from lack of female representation in biomedicine.

She will highlight emerging research programs, public policy changes, and private sector- funding opportunities that are opening new frontiers for advancing women’s health.

Presentations will be followed by time to network with professionals and community advocates. Light refreshments will be served.

The event is free, however seating is limited and tickets are required. Reserve tickets at New-frontiers-in-womens-health.eventbrite.com.
