The Carpinteria City Council voted on Monday to approve construction of a temporary 850-foot trail that will run from Linden Avenue to Holly Avenue. 

The trail will be 10 feet wide and made of decomposed granite.

It will include benches, wayfinder signage, and a dog bag dispenser at the Linden Avenue end.

The trail is considered an interim project while construction of the Surfliner Inn project is pending approval, because the trail passes through the proposed location of the proposed hotel. 

If the Surfliner Inn is approved, more features will be added to the trail in order to make it permanent.

The council voted to hire Bob’s Backhoe & Trucking to construct the trail.

The company estimated the cost to build the pathway at $33,800, while the city initially allocated only $30,000 for the project.

The work is expected to be finished by the end of May, according to Matthew Roberts, parks and recreation director for the city.
