Authorities on Monday released the name of a pedestrian who died over the weekend after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on the Mesa in Santa Barbara.

The victim was Juan Lopez, 39, of Santa Barbara, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. Saturday on the 800 block of Cliff Drive, near Loma Alta Drive.

“When officers arrived on scene, it appeared the adult male victim had been struck by a vehicle, and the vehicle fled the scene,” said Sgt. Ethan Ragsdale of the Santa Barbara Police Department.

“Tragically, the man passed away from the injuries he sustained from the collision.”

As of Monday afternoon, investigators were still trying to track down the driver, and no arrests had been made.
