Authorities have released the name of the man who died of a possible drug overdose last week at the Santa Barbara Waterfront.

The victim was John Venters III, 20, of Santa Barbara, according to Raquel Zick, public information officer for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Bureau.

Venters was found unresponsive at about 11:45 a.m. Sept. 6 in the restrooms at the base of Stearns Wharf.

First responders administered medical aid, and the opioid-overdose-reversing drug Narcan was administered, but Venters was declared dead at the scene, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Foul play is not suspected in the death, police said.

“Cause and manner of death are pending,” Zick said.
