County crews responded to a Goleta structure fire at an apparent storage area near the Santa Barbara Airport early Monday morning.

A fire was reported in the area of Technology Drive and Thornwood Drive at 4:51 a.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Capt. Daniel Bertucelli said.

Responding firefighters saw heavy smoke and reported a semi trailer or shipping container that was in flames.

Bertucelli said it’s unknown whether the structure was converted into a residence, and investigators are looking into that as well as the cause of the fire.

Three vehicles next to the structure were also in flames, but firefighters were able to protect a nearby boat from damage, Bertucelli said.

County Fire crews extinguished the blaze and searched the inside of the structure while an investigator responded to the scene, he said.

There was no reported impact to the airport.

No further details were available.
