The Santa Barbara County Probation Department on Dec. 9 conducted countywide wellness checks on active Probation and Post-Release Community Supervision clients in Santa Maria, Orcutt, Lompoc, Santa Barbara and Goleta.

The operation focused on individuals with cases of domestic violence, child or elder abuse, and family violence where children, victims, or vulnerable adults may live in the home.

Wellness checks focus on active probationers and their families, and consist of observing living environments and documenting any family needs, providing information on probation and community resources, and ensuring client compliance with the terms and conditions of probation.

Additionally, holiday-themed wellness bags with ornaments, decorations, coloring books, crayons, art projects for children, and brochures for available resources were distributed to each family. In total, 18 probation officers participated in the operation, visiting 28 sites that resulted in 12 searches and one arrest.
