The Santa Barbara County Courthouse Docent Council is looking for prospective docents to join a training program for the Class of 2024.
The 2024 class marks the 50th anniversary of the Docent Council’s founding and first tours.
The training’s 10 weekly classes begin in the first quarter of 2024, and those who apply early will be invited to an informational meeting in November to learn more.
Beyond learning about the history and architecture of the courthouse, graduate docents meet people from all over the world who come to visit Santa Barbara’s iconic national and state Historic Landmark.
Robert L. Ooley and Rodney Baker lead the class.
Formerly the county architect, Ooley’s contributions to the courthouse include oversight of major conservation projects and the National Historic Landmark designation of the building.
Baker serves as vice president of the Courthouse Legacy Foundation, founded by Ooley, and oversees special projects for the Docent Council.
To apply for docent training, visit the council’s website, or come to the courthouse information booth in the lobby.
