Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire Wednesday afternoon near Haskell’s Beach and the Ritz-Carlton Bacara Resort in western Goleta.

Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched shortly before 4 p.m. to the fire, which was burning between Hollister Avenue and the shoreline — east of the Bacara and west of Sandpiper Golf Course and the idled Ellwood oil-processing plant.

The initial size-up was about half an acre blackened, with a flames spreading slowly, according to fire Capt. Mike Gray.

The fire was burning in light brush and spreading into eucalyptus trees, Gray said, adding that winds were minimal.

Water-dropping helicopters were assisting crews battling the flames on the ground.

Smoke from the blaze was spreading across much of Western Goleta.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported. Cause of the fire was under investigation.
