A vegetation fire burned approximately 10 acres on a remote hillside in the Los Alamos area late Sunday afternoon, before crews stopped the forward progress.
At approximately 4:45 p.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department were dispatched to the incident near the 7500 and 8200 blocks of Alisos Canyon Road.
Access to the incident proved difficult for firefighters, who reported the flames appeared to be moving slowly.
The fire was burning in grass and brush with light winds but had the potential to grow to 50 acres, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Crews halted the fire’s forward progress less than two hours after arriving, but continued their work to surround the blaze. As of 7:30 p.m., containment stood at 0% as firefighting resources, including bull dozers, continue their efforts.
Power lines were reportedly down in the area, prompting warnings to firefighters at the scene.
A Santa Barbara County Air Support helicopter assisted crews on the ground before sunset forced the aircrew to land.
An investigator was sent to the scene to determine how the fire started.
