Ground and air support firefighting crews responded to a 2-acre vegetation fire burning in the Cat Canyon Road area near Sisquoc Sunday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The blaze was reported at 3:30 p.m. near Old Rig Road, giving the incident the Rig Fire name.
Incident Command for the fire reported it was initially burning at a slow rate of speed on a hilltop in the remote area.
Ground crews of firefighters and the water-dropping county Copter 308 were assigned to the blaze, County Fire spokesman Mike Eliason said.
Fixed-wing tankers responded to drop Phos-check as well, and Santa Maria City Fire Department crews assisted on the ground, he said.
The forward progress of the fire was stopped around 4:30 p.m., and an investigator was responding to the scene, according to Eliason.
