The Santa Barbara County District Attorney’s Office has charged a Santa Maria man with murder in the 2017 shooting death of Edward Jonathan Ramirez. 

On Sept. 3, 2017, 19-year-old Ramirez was fatally wounded in a shooting on Lazo Way in a northwest neighborhood, police said. 

The shooting suspect was charged with murder, intentionally using a firearm to commit the murder and committing the murder for the benefit of a criminal street gang. 

The District Attorney’s Office identified him only by his initials, J.L., since he was 17 years old at the time of the alleged crime. 

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in Santa Maria Juvenile Court.
