The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Water Polo team played their second match of the weekend against the University of the Pacific, coming away with a victory.
Notably, center Dash McFarland came away with a double hat trick, notching a total of six goals across four quarters.
“Today was our best defensive effort of the year,” Wigo said. “Pacific had 16 goals yesterday and always has a high-power offense. Levi Lentin had a great match and the defense really got some great blocks.
“The offense started slow but really kicked up in the third quarter. It was the best possible result we could have hoped for today.”
Santa Barbara came out strong at the first whistle of the game, setting the tone with a goal by McFarland within the first thirty seconds of play. Another by Logan Sutter followed, leaving the Gauchos with the advantage heading into the second quarter.
Santa Barbara continued their strikes forward, and redoubled their advantage over the Tigers, leaving the score at 5-2 going into the second half.
The third quarter of the game followed the same pattern, as did the fourth, leaving the final score at 14-7 in favor of the Gauchos. McFarland scored three goals in each half.
UC Santa Barbara will return to Santa Barbara to host Princeton on Tuesday from Dos Pueblos High School in Goleta, with a start time of 11 a.m.
