On Sunday, June 14, 2026, at 8:25 p.m., David Wallace Taggart passed away at the age of 60 after a two-year battle with cancer.
Dave grew up in Goleta and graduated from San Marcos High School.
Some of the best times of his life were spent on the football field at San Marcos, where he was captain for the Royals and an All-League linebacker. Undersized yet always overachieving, Friday nights under the lights remained one of his fondest memories.
Many people encountered Dave along the Santa Barbara coast, where he loved to fish. He was always quick to share his catch, a story, or whatever he had with anyone he met.
An accomplished carpenter, Dave took great pride in his craftsmanship and enjoyed creating with his hands. He was always willing to go the extra mile for people, offering his love, time, and truck whenever it was needed.
Dave loved life and lived by the simple, optimistic motto: “Today is today.”
He had the most infectious smile that reached his eyes, and a booming voice that lit up every room he entered. His joy was magnetic, and his presence left a lasting impression on all who loved him.
He is now at peace, reunited in heaven with his loving mother Roxanne, and his beloved brother Gary.
Dave is survived by his one and only child Roxanne; his dear father David Francis; and his two brothers Anthony L. and Michael J.
We are deeply grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Ridley Tree Cancer Center, Cottage Hospital, and Serenity House, as well as his many friends who helped and supported him through the end of his life.
The Taggart family is hosting a Celebration of Life at Goleta Beach, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Oct. 17.
Thank you, and may God bless every heart with His loving presence as we journey through this time of grief and remembrance.
In lieu of flowers, please go fishing with a loved one.
