David Alan Schofield passed away on June 28, 2019, at the age of 63. He was a resident of Lompoc.
Family were with him at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital when he passed, including his wife Dorothy, daughters Meagan and Jessica, his Mother Joyce Reeves, sister Gail Sims, and nephew Ben.
Born in Joliet, Ill., to Joyce and Kenneth Schofield, Feb. 20, 1956, music was always a big part of his life. He pursued his studies in music at the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, and continued his path as a student of life and a career musician.
He was an accomplished artist, and played several instruments, including guitar, bass guitar, and piano. He founded many bands over the years, beginning with solo acts and duos and later in his career, orchestrating bands as large as 8-10 musicians. He was band leader, arranger, performer, mentor, and colleague to many musicians.
In Santa Barbara, he is probably most remembered for the band Blue Moon, which was very popular and successful locally in the 1980s, ’90s and early 2000s. His talents covered many genres; he could play music masterfully, from classical to folk, rock and roll, and rhythm and blues.
In addition to his talents as a musician, he had numerous other jobs and interests. He was a talented draftsperson, producing precise and beautiful drawings. He was a carpenter and handyman extraordinaire. He could fix anything. He devoured the written word, reading anything he could get his hands on.
David was so talented and creative. He had a unique sense of humor. A truly kind and loving soul. He loved his family and cared deeply for his friends. He also had a soft spot for his furry friends.
He is survived by his grandson Ryker David Feldt; daughters Meagan and Jessica Schofield; wife Dorothy Schofield; mother Joyce Reeves; sister Gail Sims; and extended family.
We miss you. You will live on in our hearts. You touched many lives, and we are honored to have had you with us, even for this short time. You will not be forgotten.
