Local pickleball professional Dayne Gingrich won medals in all three events he competed in at the recent U.S. Open Pickleball Championships in Naples, Fla.
Gingrich claimed the gold medal in the Champions Men’s Pro Doubles (senior pro), re-teaming with Wisconsin’s Dave Weinbach. They defeated Marcelo Paiva Jardim/Jaime Oncins in three sets.
It was Gingrich’s fourth U.S. Open gold medal in senior men’s doubles.
He also reached the final of the Champions Mixed Pro Doubles and took silver with Karin Ptaszek-Kochis. They lost to Lee Whitwell/Jaime Oncins.
Gingrich completed his tournament medal collection with a bronze in the Men’s Split Age Division. His younger partner was Kyle Koszuta, also known as “ThatPickleball Guy” on social media platforms.
“Men’s split age can be tricky — two egos battling, trying to find their roles on-court, both physically and strategically,” said Gingrich on an Instagram post. “Kyle and I found that balance almost perfectly.”
