Demolition work on the old municipal pool structure is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Lompoc Civic Center. American Wrecking, Inc. will be working under contract to take down the 65-year-old pool structure. Lompoc City Council approved the project on Sept. 17.
The pool has remained unused and vacant since 2000, as the dilapidated state of the building rendered it unsafe and too costly to retrofit.
Actual demolition is expected to begin in a few weeks, and the project is set to last into the beginning of February.
Several parking spots at the Lompoc Civic Center will be blocked off throughout the duration of the demolition project. The city of Lompoc apologizes to the community for any additional noise or dust in the area during the demolition work.
Total cost of the project is estimated at $472,650.
