Leo Metzger shot a 6-under 66 at Olivas Links to lead San Marcos in a 368-410 Channel League win over Buena Tuesday.
Shams Jahangir-Arshad followed with a 1-under 71.
“Today was our lowest round of the year relative to par,” Royals coach Jeff Ashton said. “Both Leo and Shams played great rounds to shoot under par. Buena’s low scores were 68 and 70, so there was a lot of good competition at the top of the match.”
Graham Chapman added a 76 for San Marcos.
“Graham Chapman shot his low round of the year and really filled a big need for us, as we have been trying a lot of different athletes out to round out our team,” Ashton said.
San Marcos is now 6-0 in league play and 8-1 overall.
Dos Pueblos 382, Pacifica 501
Dos Pueblos’ Denver Douglas shot a bogey-free, 4-under 68 at River Ridge’s Vineyard Course to take medalist honors in a 382-501 Channel League win over Pacifica Tuesday.
Douglas was followed closely by teammate Colt Robert with a 69, his first-ever round in the 60s.
“Dos Pueblos was able to show their depth with a number of typically non-varsity players shining,” Charger coach Kevin Ahlers said. “Today a lot of players shot their personal bests in a match.”
Freshman Coulter Jay shot a personal best of 77, finishing his round with three birdies. Freshman Jonathan Yang also shot his personal best, with an 87.
“He and I had set a goal of 90, and he was very proud to accomplish it.”
Senior Lance Hughes had four birdies and ended with an 81, with a 15-foot birdie putt on hole 12.
“It was exciting to see all the boys excited about their rounds,” Ahlers said.
