Detectives were investigating a “suspicious death” on Wednesday after a man’s body was found in Toro Canyon northeast of Summerland, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

A passerby reportedly discovered the remains shortly before 11 a.m., and alerted authorities.

Deputies arrived and discovered a deceased adult male, according to Raquel Zick, sheriff’s public information officer.

A witness told Noozhawk the body was face up in the creek.

Detectives closed Toro Canyon Road from Foothill Road to Torito Road while they conducted their investigation.

No additional details about the incident were released by the Sheriff’s Office.
