The Robotics Club at Santa Maria High School hosted its inaugural Día de los Niños celebration, marking a step toward honoring culture, community, and youth empowerment on campus.

The event brought together students, families, and community members for an afternoon filled with activities and cultural appreciation, all offered as a free event to ensure accessibility for everyone in the community.

Centered on the spirit of Día de los Niños — a celebration of children, their importance in society, and their potential, the event featured music, traditional games, arts and crafts, and culturally inspired activities reflecting the rich heritage of the Santa Maria community, organizers said.

“Thanks to the organizers’ dedication, every child who attended was provided with a meal, ensuring that all guests could fully enjoy the day in a welcoming and supportive environment,” the Robotics Club said.

A highlight of the event was the distribution of more than 350 books to children in attendance.

“This effort emphasized the importance of literacy and learning, giving young participants resources they can take home and continue to benefit from long after the celebration ended,” organizers said.

“Club members worked collaboratively for months to plan and organize the event, demonstrating leadership, creativity, and a strong commitment to community outreach,” organizers said.

Their efforts paid off, as the inaugural celebration drew a positive response and laid the foundation for what will become an annual tradition.

“The success of our first Día de los Niños event was a true reflection of the joy, unity, and cultural pride within our community,’’ said Antonio Canongo, math teacher and Robotics Club advisor.
