Former Dos Pueblos baseball standout Nico Martinez pitched a seven-inning no-hitter in his debut at Cal State Dominguez Hills, leading the Toros to an 8-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands in the second game of a doubleheader.
It was the fifth no-hitter in CSDH program history and the first since 2010.
Martinez retired the first 16 batters before issuing a walk to break up a perfect-game bid on an 11-pitch battle.
He retired the final five batters to earn his place in the school record book in his first-ever start at Toro Field.
Martinez struck out eight in an 87-pitch performance.
Martinez is a 2019 graduate of DP. He attended Cuesta College for two years before signing with Dominguez Hills in Carson.
