Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse finished off a dominant regular season with a 17-2 rout of rival San Marcos on Thursday at Warkentin Stadium.

The Chargers finish the regular season with an overall record of 18-0 and a Channel League mark of 8-0, marking the first undefeated regular season in program history and the second in league history.

It is also the second straight season where Dos Pueblos has gone undefeated against Channel League opponents.

“I’m just so proud of these boys. It has been such an honor to coach them these past years,” Dos Pueblos head coach Lucas Martinez said. “The work they put in on and off the field, the way they carry themselves, the way they are so inviting and welcoming to new players, the community they’ve built…it’s just amazing.

“I’m very happy that they were able to finish the regular season undefeated.”

The Chargers also celebrated several individual achievements with the win, as Jack Finneran and Orion Prewarski became the first players in Channel League boys lacrosse history to surpass 100 points in a season.

Prewarski scored five goals and four assists to bring his total to 106 while Jack Finneran ended with one goal and four assists to put his mark at 104. They beat out Dos Pueblos’ Dan Finneran, who notched 99 last season.

Twin brothers Jack and Dan Finneran are also fighting for the program record of career points. Dan is currently atop the leaderboard with 265 points, but Jack is just behind him at 259 with a CIF-SS playoff run ahead of the Chargers.

“I’m especially proud of Jack and Orion,” Martinez said. “They put in so much work since they’ve been on the team, but especially this past offseason.

“I don’t know who is gonna end up with the records, but I know all three (Dan, Jack, Orion) of these guys are incredible players and incredible young men. The best thing, though, is that I know any one of them would trade any record for what is our ultimate goal – a CIF title.”

As for Thursday’s regular-season finale, Dos Pueblos came out of the gates on fire, leading 8-0 after the first quarter and expanding that advantage to 14-0 by halftime.

They cruised to the win from there, with Dax Pham, Holden Dicogno and Drew Schultz all scoring their first career goals for the Chargers.

Dos Pueblos will now await its CIF-SS playoff pairing, which will be released April 25.

Cate 12, Santa Barbara 10

The Rams clinched a CIF-SS playoff spot with a victory over the Dons on Thursday at Peabody Stadium.

Cate held the advantage in the opening half thanks to goals from Tres Davidson and Jacob Gabbay. However, Santa Barbara High answered out of the break and took a 6-5 lead early in the third quarter.

The Rams responded immediately with a game-tying goal from Ethan Rehnborg.

The Dons had a chance to take control of the game late in the third quarter when Cate was forced to play two men down, but the Rams’ defense held strong and Braedo Parker came up with a massive save to maintain momentum with one quarter to play.

Cate leaned on the offense in the final quarter as Quincy Thorne scored a pair of goals to give the Rams breathing room and eventually pull out the win.

Cody Mast had a strong day for the Rams with four goals, including his 100th career score.

Cate will learn its CIF-SS playoff pairing next week.
