Dos Pueblos boys lacrosse held off a late comeback effort to earn a 12-8 non-league win over St. John Bosco on Thursday at Scott O’Leary Stadium in Goleta.
The Chargers had complete control of the game in the first half, holding a slim 1-0 lead after the first and building it up to 5-0 by halftime.
The St. John Bosco offense woke up in the second half with four goals in each of the two quarters, but the Dos Pueblos offense answered with seven second-half goals of its own to hold on for the win.
Koa Birchim scored a team-high five goals and dished out a pair of assists for the Chargers, while Dean Wendel generated three turnovers on the defensive end.
“It wasn’t really how we drew it up, but a win is a win,” Dos Pueblos head coach Lucas Martinez said. “We made a lot of mistakes, but we were able to make the plays when it mattered. Bosco did a great job staying in it and fighting to the end.
“They have some great players, and they made themselves known in the second half. Games like this make it clear to us that we have a lot to work on and we as coaches need to spend a lot more time focusing on a few areas so we can be better prepared to play.”
