Dos Pueblos boys tennis took down Westlake by a score of 10-8 to claim the CIF-SS Div. 4 championship title on Friday at the University of Redlands.
Friday’s championship victory capped off a stellar season for the Chargers, who lost just one match all season.
Dos Pueblos earned seven of its 10 points in singles play, while the final three came courtesy of doubles.
After the Chargers got out to an early 4-2 lead, the two teams battled back and forth until the Dos Pueblos advantage stood at 7-5.
Westlake battled back to trim that lead down to 9-8, but Dos Pueblos’ Ciaran Tober-Bridges battled his way to a tiebreaker win in singles to give his team the 10th and final point needed to be crowned champions.
“This match turned into the battle that I knew it was going to be,” Dos Pueblos head coach Alan Richter said. “Westlake came in with a strong season team, but the Chargers stepped up and met the challenge.
“This has been a team of strong dedication to fighting for every point through the season, and that dedication resulted in this amazing win today.”
