Dos Pueblos boys volleyball went a perfect 7-0 and was crowned the Sylmar Charter High Tournament champions on Saturday.
“It was a great day for us which saw our squad continuing to improve our on-court chemistry and overall cohesiveness,” Chargers coach Ehren Hug said. “I’m proud of our players’ focus and competitiveness Saturday. They played very hard and utilized all opportunities given.”
In pool play, Dos Pueblos rolled to two-set wins over Canoga Park (25-16, 25-11), University Prep (25-5, 25-16), South Gate (25-23, 25-8) and Jordan (25-14, 25-17).
Then, the Chargers defeated Mendez (25-14) and Marshall (25-19) in the playoffs to set up a championship matchup with Venice. In the title match, Dos Pueblos came out on top 25-17.
“We faced Venice in the finals and we put forth some of our best volleyball of the day, highlighting our middles most of the set,” Hug said. “Our serve-receive was calm and efficient all day long with a lot of different players.
“At this point in the season, it feels awesome to see them improving and focused heading into the playoffs.”
Wyatt Silver, Micah Goss and Noah Grant each earned All-Tournament honors for the Chargers.
Silver collected 98 assists, 13 kills, seven digs and five blocks on the day. Meanwhile, Goss hammered home a team-high 39 kills and Grant tallied 22 kills and six blocks.
Also turning in solid performances for Dos Pueblos were Jan Schmidtchen (34 kills, 9 digs) and Kawin Ramko (29 kills, 15 digs).
The Chargers end the regular season with a 22-7 record and will be on the road against Upland in the CIF-SS Div. 2 playoff opener on Thursday at 6 p.m.
