Dos Pueblos and San Marcos boys water polo each split their two matchups at the South Coast Tournament on Friday in Orange County.
Dos Pueblos
The Chargers began their day with a 15-10 comeback win over Los Alamitos before falling to Downey by a score of 12-11.
In the victory, Dos Pueblos found itself trailing 5-4 at halftime. However, the Charger offense caught fire with six goals in the third quarter and five more in the fourth to pull away for the win.
Grant Nelson led the way in the offensive outburst with eight goals, while Channing Wigo scored four of his own. Lucas Neushul, Skyler Carroll and Eli Carnaghe rounded out the scoring.
In the cage, Koa Zertuche racked up 15 saves to lead a defense that held Los Alamitos to just two fourth-quarter goals.
The loss to Downey was a tight matchup, as the game was tied up at 9-9 at the end of three quarters. However, Downey outscored the Chargers 3-2 down the stretch to secure the win.
Carnaghe led Dos Pueblos with three goals in that game, while Wigo, Neushul and Nelson all scored twice. Ben Fuhrer and Tyler Racine had two goals apiece, while Zertuche collected seven saves and a steal.
San Marcos
The Royals fell in their first game to Beckman by a score of 14-11, and bounced back with a 15-7 win over Murrieta Valley.
San Marcos held a 7-4 lead over Beckman at halftime but struggled to contain the Patriot offense in the second half, resulting in a loss.
Christian Yonker led the Royals with three goals, while Jake Magid and Ryder Wilson each scored twice.
Meanwhile, San Marcos had full control throughout the win over Murrieta Valley, including a 5-2 lead after the first quarter and an 8-3 halftime advantage.
Will Staurt paced the offense with three goals and Yonker contributed two more goals in the win.
